The Jeweller

JoshuaVanderpool

Founder of Stones The Jeweller. In the jewellery trade since the age of sixteen, with a Diamond Diploma and more than eight years’ experience, much of it in the diamond wholesale industry of London’s Hatton Garden.

Beginning

Sixteen, and already in the trade.

Joshua Vanderpool entered the jewellery industry at sixteen. Rather than arriving through design or retail, he came to it through stones: learning first how a diamond is judged, bought and sold, and only later how it is set.

More than eight years on, that order still shapes how he works. The stone comes first, and everything else is designed around it.

Diamond knowledge

Grading, sourcing, selection.

He holds a Diamond Diploma, and his working knowledge was built where grading is done for a living: the diamond wholesale industry. Sourcing, grading and stone selection were his daily work.

It is the part of a commission clients rarely see but always feel. Two stones with identical reports can look very different in the hand. Knowing why, and which to choose, is the discipline he brings to every piece.

Hatton Garden

London’s diamond district.

Much of Joshua’s professional experience has been within London’s Hatton Garden diamond district, the centre of the UK diamond trade. It is where he learned the trade’s way of working: in person, by relationship, and with stones viewed loose before any decision is made.

That is still how Stones The Jeweller sources.

The wholesale trade

Where stones are judged on their merits.

The wholesale trade teaches a particular kind of judgement. Stones are assessed loose and on their merits rather than their packaging, and value is understood in terms of rarity and quality rather than a retail story.

Clients benefit from that directly: honest guidance on what a budget can achieve, and where it is best spent for the wearer.

Private clients

More than luxury.

For Joshua, jewellery represents more than luxury. It marks milestones and relationships; it carries heritage, family and memory; and the best of it is made to be passed on.

A private-client approach follows naturally: one person, one conversation, one piece made for them, with the discretion that significant jewellery deserves.

Suppliers and craftsmen

A network built over years.

Years in the trade have built an extensive network of diamond suppliers and skilled craftsmen. It is what allows Stones The Jeweller to source exceptional stones, including ones that are otherwise hard to find, and to have each commission made by the specialist best suited to it.

Stones The Jeweller

What the house is for.

Joshua’s ambition for the house is simple to state. He wants Stones The Jeweller to be known for exceptional diamonds, for craftsmanship, and for integrity and expertise in equal measure; for the personal relationships it builds with its clients; and for the trust those relationships earn over many years and, in time, generations.
