The commission
The brief was for a ring that would read as one unbroken line of light. Joshua began with the centre stone, reviewing a shortlist of ovals until one presented with the length, the brightness and the absence of bow-tie the design needed.
The pear-shaped sides were sourced to match it, not the other way round, and are set a fraction lower so the oval stands proud without ever looking separate from them.
- Client brief
- A three-stone ring that felt classic from across a room and unmistakably modern up close.
- Sourcing
- The centre stone was chosen from several candidates viewed loose and in person, for how it faced up rather than for its paper alone.
- Craftsmanship
- Made by hand with the claws finished under the microscope, so the stones are held by the least possible metal.
